Recollect (2018)

The Carnegie Dance Troupe & Karen Jamieson

2018

About

RECOLLECT (a working title) was shown as a work-in-progress performance at the Heart of the City Festival in 2018.

We welcomed Mirae Rosner in her new position as Leader of the Carnegie Dance Troupe. After many years working with the Troupe, Karen has passed her role to Mirae but will remain as mentor to the group...and sometimes a participant too!

Since 2006 the principle supporting The Carnegie Dance Troupe is absolute inclusivity. Performances are created through a process of collaboration, seeking to connect us to our body, to our breath, to the energy of the earth, to each other and our diverse communities.

Exploring themes through dance, music, poem and film, this work-in-progress weaves together new choreographic directions with The Carnegie Dance Troupe’s repertoire.

When:
Sunday October 28, 2018
3:00-4:00pm

Where:
Goldcorp Centre for the Arts - SFU Woodwards
Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre

No admission charge.

In memory of Sarah Good (1948-2018)

Sarah was with us for many years sharing her gifts of drum and song.
Her spirit and contributions to the group have enriched us and we hold her in high esteem.

Sarah Ann Good “Salautia” (Snuneymuxw) was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in law, auntie, cousin, singer, dancer and drummer, Siowen dancer, community member, and friend to many.

If there was a definition of a Warrior Woman, it would be Sarah Ann Good. Her strong moral compass pointed her in the direction to stand up for what was “right” in this world. A soft spoken activist with a strong and powerful presence who fought for human rights, woman’s rights, political rights, environmental rights.

She was a highly respected singer, dancer and drummer. She was quiet, shy, and fierce all at the same time. She was also a beautiful, creative, giving, loving, and powerful woman. Her work spans decades and will affect change for generations.

Sarah is loved and missed.

The Carnegie Dance Troupe acknowledges that our dancing takes place on the unceded Territory of the Coast Salish People; Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh
