 Archives

The Karen Jamieson Dance Archives are one of the key components of the Legacy Project.

We are committed to making the archives truly accessible, physically and digitally, including in perpetuity, and to forming a strategic public engagement, social media and outreach program to create awareness of the work being done and the information available at the KJD archives.

Finding Aid

We are in an ongoing process of cataloguing the physical and digital archives. At present, a work-in-progress finding aid is available that provides access to all of the company’s textual records and much of our analogue photographic materials.

DIGITIZATION

Many of our 2D materials have been scanned and we are working to make them accessible online. Currently some of our digitized audiovisual materials are housed on Arca through the British Columbia History Digitization Program.

View our collection on Arca here!

A selection of our in-house digitized photos, textual records, and videos can be found by browsing through the choreographic works. We are continuously working to upgrade the amount of content that is available through our website and the extent of our collections that are digitized.

COSTUMES AND REALIA

We are actively working to document our costumes and realia. Some of the work done so far can be viewed by clicking on the exhibits page and seeing how some of our costumes have been worn and used, then and now (coming soon!).

CI Notices and TK Labels

With the gracious help of Local Contexts, we were able to implement Cultural Institution Notices throughout our website and on Arca to accompany works that have incomplete attribution, as well as to state our openness to ongoing collaboration with Indigenous individuals and communities in our information management practices. The two CI Notices we have implemented are:

Attribution Incomplete Notice:

Collections and items at Karen Jamieson Dance have incomplete, inaccurate, and/or missing attribution. We are using this notice to clearly identify this material so that it can be updated, or corrected by communities of origin. Karen Jamieson Dance is committed to collaboration and partnerships to address this problem of incorrect or missing attribution.

Open to Collaborate Notice:

Karen Jamieson Dance is committed to the development of new modes of collaboration, engagement, and partnership for the care and stewardship of past and future heritage collections.

For a more in-depth discussion of these notices and how they function on the Karen Jamieson Dance website, click here.

UBC cIRcle and DTES RAP

We have collaborated with UBC to make a selection of the materials from the Carnegie Dance Troupe available through UBC cIRcle and the DTES RAP. We are grateful to be able to share our archival materials with this community. We will continue to make new works available through these platforms as they are created and performed by the Carnegie Dance Troupe each fall!
