About

The Karen Jamieson Dance Company was created in 1983 to continue developing and producing the award-winning choreographic work of Karen Jamieson, following from seven years in her role as a prominent member of Terminal City Dance Research.

At the time of its founding, the company was located at 901 Main Street and consisted of seven members: Karen Jamieson, Paulette Bibeau, Alison Crawford, Jay Hirabayashi, Lyne Lanthier, Aaron Shields, and Tom Stroud.

The new company’s debut work Sisyphus was “enthusiastically received when it was presented as an informal work-in-progress during [Vancouver Dance Week].” - The Richmond Review, February 1, 1984

 
 

KAREN JAMIESON RIMMER, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Karen Jamieson Rimmer, Co-Founder and Director of Terminal City Dance has now formed her own dance company. Karen is referred to as, “one of Canada’s most intriguing and tantalizing choreographers.” Now she has the opportunity to showcase her powerful dance on six excitingly versatile dancers. Share in this unique dance experience!

THE COMPANY

The choreographer and her new company are described as, “musical,” “theatrical” and “stunning.” The dance itself, is designed to satisfy the audience’s imagination. The work explores a broad spectrum of movement ideas, emotions, tones, and concepts, using original music scores by contemporary Canadian composers. KAREN JAMIESON DANCE COMPANY is a total dance, music and theatre experience. Programming is designed for versatility and flexibility, allowing the company to perform in spaces ranging from major theatres to school gyms and gallery spaces.
